Compatibility
It is very important to consider the compatibility between the chemistry of the polymer and colorant as some of the compounds in the colorants can even break down the chemistry of the polymer by weaken its original properties such as impact-resistance and many more. In injection molding, the high heat is used that can also influence the degree to which the colorant affects the polymer.
The colorant is capable of surviving the high processing temperature so that it may affect one polymer differently than it does another based on temperature. Moreover, it is also worth noting that the interaction between a polymer and a colorant may also be affected by some other additives such as polycarbonate. Otherwise, some that are unaffected by a colorant may also have a different reaction when a flame retardant is added to the PC.
Different pigments - different properties
Molecular weight and crystalline are two main factors in the equation that can affect a polymer in different ways. As in the example, transparent colors can be made with dyes that are potentially less impactful than the pigments used in opaque colors. Plastic pigments are made of particles in which the size of these particles can impact the performance of the material.
