Despite, some of the colorants are more impact resistant than other colorants, while some of them have better characteristics such as more UV resistance. Property #1: Weather ability or Aging
The pigments must exposure to sunlight. Pigments that are mainly used in the plastic industry should be selected for their weather resistance characteristics that are closely related to lightfastness. It adds an extra dimension of atmospheric situations and some artificial lights can have adverse impacts on the useful life of the plastic products. Consequently, the pigments used especially for plastic products require UV protection and weather-resistant properties.

Property #2: Lightfastness
Pigments must always hold a lightfastness property that describes how immune to fading the pigment is when it is exposed to light. Though, inorganic pigments are recognized to be more lightfast than organic pigments. Additionally, the black pigment is usually considered the most lightfast.

Property #3: Insolubility
Pigments used for plastic products should be insoluble in the medium and must not react with any of the components when added. Notably, organic pigments may dissolve to a limited extent in organic solvents whereas inorganic pigments may be influenced by other components.

Property #4: Transparency
Transparency property is measured as the greater the color difference, the higher is its transparency. Transparency is obtained by reducing the color particle size as possible that is achieved by surrounding the pigment particles as soon as they are produced with a coating. Despite the fact, it prevents the growth of crystals. For example, iron oxide pigment can be opaque or transparent.
